Breaking Away

We’re all born the same, unfettered by preconceived limitations. Eventually, we submit to laws. There are those we must embrace in order to be free . . . the laws of hard work and discipline. Then there are those we must challenge for that very same freedom . . . the laws of conformity and small-mindedness. The weight of these Barisan Nasional chains can be so subtle, we forget them. This is how we are shackled, tamed. Normalcy becomes the rule and we grow comfortable with limits. Like a dog at the end of a Barisan Nasional leash, we move but never of our own will.

It is time to defy, time to rise, time to change is NOW . . .

We will test our mettle, pull hard against these restraints and together we can achieve more than what we can possibly do on our own. We will not let conventional thinking rule us. As we live here in Sarawak, the Barisan Nasional chain will bury deep into our flesh, the weight will pull us and our future generations down. But we must fight. We will defy Barisan Nasional. If we fall now, we will get right back up.

My friends, life is short and every minute that passes hurtles us closer to the end. In the time that we have, we must commit ourselves to this cause that’s far greater than ourselves and the cause bind into us – these words are the contract that bind us to our promise for the future generations . . . Upon this contract, I have signed by name in blood, sweat and tears – to unbind our future generations from the chains of Barisan Nasional.

We need a Regime Change.
We can't be sucked and sucked and sucked by a few politicians especially Taib whose family members all enjoy big wealth and live a good live overseas!!!
Think they protray themselve as rich tychoons hiding they fact that they loot and suck from the Ibans and Sarawakians with all development funds to his sons and brothers' projects!!!
Somebody should write to expose them in Australia, Canada, USA and England! We should claim back every cent from his loot and put in the Sate's coffer to build up Sarawak.
Do TRY!.

we hope that the people will decide for change and not fear about things that have not yet come. people should not fear whether new leaders can perform or not, even though there might be some politicians who switch camps just because they do not get any projects from the present party.

people should also be aware of the diversion tactics to this coming election, by mercenary clowns like those from perkasa. it's all to scare people to think of "if we are no loger in power, this is what will happen..".

change for a better future, since it is the people's future. and keep up your blogging.

SARAWAK INDEPENDENCE

Dear Ms. Borneonization

Just happened to come by your website by chance.

Two headlines on you web page made a connection for me.

The first one was "The Long Road to Sarawak's Independence" in September 2009 and "Breaking Away" in January 2011.

I read "Breaking Away" to mean fighting for a free and independent Sarawak.

I realised that we were one of many fellow travellers on the long road to Sarawak Independence.

I think the several commentators on this page missed the point of what you are saying in "Breaking Away". It is not just about "regime change" in Sarawak, but change of our colonial status to national independence by breaking free from Malayan UMNO colonial rule.

Your page is of particular interest because there are very few (I assume Sarawak) women who display such courage in speaking out their minds in a clear and simple way. And yet conveys the message so gently and smoothly.

Your imagery of Sarawakians being shackled to the BN leash is very accurate metaphor.

In 1963 Sarawakians were forced to exchange the British colonial master for the new Malayan UMNO colonial master. We got a new dog collar which was even more tighter than the previous one and used in a very cruel fashion.

You may not even have been born then but you must have read that the British proposal to create "Malaysia" was opposed internationally and locally as a "neo-colonial creation". In 1962 the Brunei Anti-Malaysia Uprising broke out and this was followed by the guerrilla war against "Malaysia" for independence
in Sarawak till 1990.

This is our history which we should all be proud of as our predecessors had fought courageously for national independence.

Your following words are very poetic and please allow me to post "Breaking Away" in other web pages:

"My friends, life is short and every minute that passes hurtles us closer to the end. In the time that we have, we must commit ourselves to this cause that’s far greater than ourselves and the cause bind into us – these words are the contract that bind us to our promise for the future generations . . . Upon this contract, I have signed by name in blood, sweat and tears – to unbind our future generations from the chains of Barisan Nasional."

Fully agree with every word you say above. We must struggle on for our fair land Sarawak to make it free and independent.
